D. Elizabeth Wills
Betsy Wills is an of counsel attorney with Gersh & Thomaidis, LLC. Ms. Wills began her career as a trial attorney with the Denver Regional Office of the Securities and Exchange Commission, where she handled cases involving fraud in the sale of silver and gold bullion and coins. She also served as temporary Special Counsel to Chairman Ray Garrett, Jr., at the SEC’s headquarters in Washington D.C.
After leaving the SEC, Ms. Wills practiced securities law with several law firms in Denver, where she represented companies and brokerage firms in private and public offerings. She also represented individuals, brokerage firms, and companies in regulatory defense matters. Ms. Wills also counts within her experience the extensive representation of victims of fraud in arbitrations and was an active arbitrator for the National Association of Securities Dealers, Inc. (now known as FINRA) for many years. Ms. Wills also spent five years as in-house counsel with two Denver-based national brokerage firms, including two years as general counsel of one of these firms.
Admitted to practice in the State of Colorado, Ms. Wills is also licensed to practice in the United States District Court for the District of Colorado, as of 1974. She earned her J.D. from the University of Wyoming, College of Law, and graduated from the University of Colorado, with a B.A., magna cum laude. Ms. Wills also was an adjunct professor at the Sturm College of Law at the University of Denver for 10 years, teaching securities regulation.
